Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry responded to the statement of the Armenian Security Council
Baku/29.03.22/Turan: The reason for the growth of tension in the region is Armenia's failure to fulfill its obligations, stated in the comments of the press service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry in response to the statement of the Armenian Security Council dated March 28. Previously, the Security Council of Armenia called on Azerbaijan "immediately" to start negotiations on a comprehensive peace treaty. The Armenian Security Council considers it necessary to involve "international deterrence mechanisms to prevent a new military escalation in the region and ethnic cleansing."
“It is precisely the violation of the tripartite statement by Armenia that increases tension in the region and damages efforts to build peace,” the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a commentary.
As for the launch of international deterrence mechanisms, humanity has not come up with a better means of deterrence than international law.
Armenia cannot, violating international law, simultaneously talk about international deterrence mechanisms. “First of all, it is observance of the principles of international law, including respect for the sovereignty of states and their internationally recognized borders, non-interference in the internal affairs of states, fulfillment of international obligations,” the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a response.
As for the start of negotiations on a peace agreement, Baku offered Yerevan to sign it a year ago. A month ago, Azerbaijan announced specific principles on the basis of which an agreement should be based.
“If Armenia treats the issue of a peace agreement as a serious step, then it is necessary to move on to concrete actions. Azerbaijan, for its part, is ready for this,” the message concludes.—06B-
