Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry: Washington should not dictate us
Statement by the Press Secretary of the Department of State on Azerbaijan on August 27 and 28, are not justified and are not acceptable, stated Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Elman Abdullayev.
"Such statements have political character, and are an attempt to exert political pressure and interference in the internal affairs of Azerbaijan. This statement does not reflect reality. Azerbaijan fully secured the rule of law, fundamental human rights and freedoms, as well as the independence of the judicial system.
Instead of seeking out other problems, the United States should be seriously engaged in the solution of many problems in the field of human rights in their country. This is shown by events in Ferguson, Missouri.
The USA has turned human rights into a tool of foreign policy, far from compliance with its obligations in the field of fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens," said Elman Abdullayev.
A spokesman for the State Department Jen Psak condemned in her statement the brutal beating of journalist and human rights defender in Nakhchivan, Ilgar Nasibov.
"We support the clear and comprehensive investigation. We hope that those responsible for this crime will be brought to a fair trial. We call on the Azerbaijani authorities to support and protect such fundamental rights as freedom of expression and assembly organizations," said Psak.
"In recent years we observe in Azerbaijan increased restrictions imposed on freedom of expression, of civilized society. We call on the Azerbaijani authorities to respect the universal rights of its citizens, to create conditions for free expression of their thoughts," she added.
On 21 August was brutally beaten in Nakhchivan activist Nasibov. No lawsuit was filed in connection with the fact of beating. Nakhchivan police claim that there is not political motive in this case. Nasibov got drunk and had a fight with his companion, police claims.
However, the Nasibov and other human rights activists believe that beating was revenge of the authorities for active advocacy of the spouses Nasibovs in Nakchivan. -03D04-
