Azerbaijani President Allocates AZN 3 Million to Support Private Television Channels
Baku / 17.01.19 / Turan: On January 17, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on rendering lump-sum financial assistance to private state-wide television and radio broadcasters.
In order to provide additional support to private national TV channels broadcasting via Azerspace-1 satellite, the head of state ordered to allocate AZN 3 million from the Reserve Fund of the President to the National Council of Television and Radio of the Azerbaijan Republic.
This step is aimed at expanding the capabilities of TV channels to "more fully inform the Azerbaijanis living abroad about their homeland, stimulate their activities in the field of propaganda of culture and national-spiritual values of the Azerbaijani people." -06D--

According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, officials from the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office's Anti-Smuggling Unit have detained an Azerbaijani citizen with a large shipment of gold. The detention took place near the Vadi İstanbul shopping center in the Sarıyer district, where a taxi was stopped. During the search, 70 kg of gold was found. The Azerbaijani citizen in the vehicle claimed ownership of the cargo and also stated that he was a diplomat. The investigation by the prosecutor's office is ongoing, reports Sabah newspaper. The media outlet does not disclose the name of the "diplomat," only his initials – M.G.Ş. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declined to comment on the situation.
