“Azercosmos” changes its status
Baku/04.27.21/Turan: On April 27, President Ilham Aliyev issued a decree on the creation of a legal entity of public law "Azerbaijan Space Agency" ("Azercosmos"). The agency is being created on the basis of the Space Agency of the Azerbaijan Republic OJSC, which was subordinate to the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies. The Agency's activities will be financed from revenues from the operation of space satellites and other sources.
The agency will be headed by its chair and two deputies. The powers of the Agency will be determined by the President of the country. The Cabinet of Ministers was entrusted with the approval of the Charter of the organization and the determination of its statutory fund. Azerbaijan currently has two telecommunication satellites.
The first satellite was launched in 2009; it is expected to operate for at least 30 years. During this time, the income from its use should be $ 600 million.-02D-
