B.Ivanishvili: No problems with the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project

The Prime Minister of Georgia, Bidzina Ivanishvili, during his visit to Azerbaijan disavowed his statement made a few days ago about the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project.

"I showed some carelessness in saying that the operation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway could cause a decrease in the volume of cargo transportation by Georgian Railway," Ivanishvili said on Wednesday at a briefing after his talks with Prime Minister Arthur Rasizadeh.

Ivanishvili said that at the meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, he acknowledged that he was "a little hasty in this matter." In fact, there is no problem, he said. "Just my statement was a bit hasty," added Ivanishvili.

According to him, the meeting with President Aliyev was held "in a very friendly and fraternal atmosphere."

He also said that he discussed with Aliyev issues related to tariffs of gas supplied by Azerbaijan and export of electricity to his country.

Ivanishvili announced Georgia's intention to increase electricity purchased from Azerbaijan.

Earlier, in an interview with the Georgian press Ivanishvili said that the construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway could cause an outflow of goods from Georgian ports and with the Georgia Railroad, and said he intended to discuss this issue with the government of Azerbaijan during his visit to Baku.

In addition, Georgia raised the question of raising the value of the BTK project from 220 million to 775 million USD. But the parties did not say a single word about this in Baku. -0 -
