British Embassy calls on Azerbaijan to join the Istanbul Convention
Baku/09.08.21/Turan: Great Britain calls on Azerbaijan to join the Istanbul Convention, reads the statement of the British embassy in Baku.
“We were disturbed to hear of the murder of Sevinj Maharramova and of reports that nine women have been killed by family members in the last month.
No woman should have to live in fear of attack by family members and every girl should grow up knowing she is safe.
It is important that cases are investigated properly and survivors of domestic violence are protected from their abusers.
The UK is committed to supporting gender equality in Azerbaijan and we continue to call on Azerbaijan to sign the Istanbul Convention - the international framework to end domestic violence” the embassy said.
Official Baku has not yet reacted to this statement.-03D-
