Former leadership of investigative department of Interior Ministry was sentenced to heavy terms ofr imprisonment
Baku/26.07.22/Turan: On September 21, a group of high-ranking officers of the abolished Ministry of National Security (MNS) was awarded sentences at the Baku Serious Crimes Court.
Thus, the former head of the investigative department of the Interior Ministry, Major General Movlam Shikhaliyev, was sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment. His deputy Yasin Mammadov won a term of 10.5 years. Former head of the 2nd department of the investigative department Vusal Alekperov was sentenced to 11 years and 2 months; deputy head of the criminology bureau of the same department Sahib Alekperov – to 8 years of imprisonment.
In turn, Mammadov, as well as Vusal and Sahib Alekperovs were taken into custody in the courtroom.
Note that the defendants in the case were found guilty under Articles 182.3.1, 182.3.2 (extortion by an organized group to obtain large-scale property), 294.3 (falsification of evidence), 311.3.1 (taking a bribe by a group of persons by prior agreement) and other articles of the Criminal Code.
All were found guilty of extortion by threats from businessmen and embezzlement of their property totaling about 17 million manats. In total, 32 victims appear in the criminal case.
The court decided to confiscate Shikhaliyev's real estate, including those issued to his family members with a total value of 9 million manats. These are apartments and villas in Sabail, Binagadi, Nasimi and Narimanov districts of the capital, as well as the in city of Agdash. -06B-

On November 26, the Baku Court of Appeals reviewed the appeal of human rights defender Anar Mammadli, who contested the extension of his detention. Mammadli's lawyer, Javad Javadov, stated that Mammadli argued the extension of his pre-trial detention was unfounded and linked the criminal prosecution to his human rights activities, Turan reported.

On November 26, a group of reserve officers from the Nakhchivan special forces held a protest near the Azerbaijani presidential administration. The protesters participated in the 44-day war and were discharged after sustaining injuries. They claim that the payments they are entitled to have not been provided.

On November 26, the Baku Court of Appeals heard a complaint regarding the extension of the detention of former diplomat Emin Ibrahimov. During the hearing, the investigator requested that the complaint be rejected, while Ibrahimov's lawyer, Aghil Laidj, pointed out the lack of grounds for keeping Ibrahimov in custody.

Arrested economist Fazil Gasimov has reportedly faced pressure after protesting the interruption of a phone call with his family on November 16. "The phone call was cut off, and Fazil demanded that the connection be restored. Then, Jalal Alizadeh, a detention center officer, along with his colleagues, forcibly removed Fazil from the phone room in the medical unit of the facility, tearing his jacket and dragging him across the floor before throwing him into a cell.
