Caspian Fleet Attacks Syria with Missiles

A sensational report was issued by the Russian media on October 7, reporting the shelling of Syria with missiles by the Russian Caspian Flotilla.

"Four ships of the Caspian Flotilla on Wednesday morning carried out 26 launches of cruise missiles at militant positions of the "Islamic State" in Syria. All targets were successfully struck, and there were no victims among the civilian population," the media quoted the Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, who reported this to President Vladimir Putin.

"In order to defeat the militants, except aviation, we drew ships of the Caspian Flotilla this morning. Four rocket ships made 26 launches of sea-based cruise missiles Caliber at 11 goals," said Shoigu.

"The results confirmed the high efficiency of impacts of missiles at great distances - almost 1.5 thousand kilometers," the Minister said.

Shoigu did not name the area, from which the launches were conducted. However, it is of fundamental importance. So if the rockets were launched from the Russian sector of the sea, they necessarily had to cross the territory of Azerbaijan.

If the missile launches were carried out from the southern part of the sea, it means the ships entered the Azerbaijani or the Iranian sector of the sea. It could not be done without the consent of Baku or Tehran.

Russia pioneered medium-range missiles against a foreign state, with which it has no common borders. These actions can have serious consequences for the region and further complicate the confrontation with NATO and the West in general.

Earlier, the Russian air force also arrived in Syria via Iran and the Caspian Sea and started bombing the objects of the ISIS. However, NATO accused Moscow of bombing opposition forces, who are struggling against the Assad regime.     -0-
