Closed Part of Hilal Mamedov Trial Completed
At the trial of the editor of the newspaper Tolyshi Sado today the closed part of the hearing was completed. It considered the charges of treason and inciting ethnic hatred.
According to the defense, the investigation did not provide evidence against Mamedov on the said articles.
At this meeting, the judge did not grant the defense motion to appoint an independent technical expertise on the flash card seized from Mamedov.
The defense argues that the card had been falsified and the written materials, which became the basis for the accusations, were not related to Mamedov.
The next court hearing will be held openly on May 22. The charge of illegal possession of drugs will be considered.
Mamedov was arrested on 21 June 2012 and charged with illegal possession of narcotics, treason and inciting ethnic hatred. However, local and international organizations believe that Mamedov is persecuted for political reasons. -16S06-
