Construction of the Agbend bridge on the Azerbaijani-Iranian border has begun
Baku/21.09.22/Turan: A ceremony of the laying the foundation of an automobile bridge across the border river Araz near the village of Agbend in the Zangilan region took place today with the participation of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev and the Minister of Roads and Improvement of Iran Rustam Gasimi, the state news agency of Azerbaijan "AZERTAJ" reported.
The project is aimed at increasing the potential of the East-West transport corridor and expanding economic ties in the region. After the 44-day war in 2020, Azerbaijan is restoring the territories liberated from Armenian occupation. Part of these works is the construction of the Horadiz-Agbend highway and the railway along the same route, which are considered an integral part of the Zangezur corridor project.
In March 2022, the Azerbaijani-Iranian Memorandum was signed on the construction of communications linking the East Zangezur economic region of Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through the territory of Iran.
A new 4-lane bridge near Agbend with a length of 216 meters and a width of 24.5 meters will connect the highways of Azerbaijan and Iran. This will provide road communication from the southwestern regions of Azerbaijan to the NAR.
The capacity of the bridge will be 500 trucks in both directions. There will also be a pedestrian crossing across the bridge. --03D06--
