CSTO forces introduced into Kazakhstan
Baku/06.01.22/Turan: Last night clashes between protesters and police and internal troops continued in various cities of Kazakhstan. As a result, there are dozens of deaths on both sides.
The country's President addressed the population as stating that the unrest was organized by outside forces and terrorists.
"About half of our country is covered by unrest. The situation is particularly difficult in Almaty.
Particular emphasis has to be placed on high level of organization of hooligan elements. This testifies to a carefully thought-out action plan of the conspirators who are financially motivated," Tokayev said.
According to him, Kazakhstan has been exposed to aggression, so it has turned to the CSTO for help.
Russian media reported that CSTO peacekeeping forces will protect military infrastructure and other facilities.
Note that the CSTO forces will remain in Kazakhstan until the country's authorities request their withdrawal.
Meanwhile, last night many objects in various cities of the country were attacked by looters, including the airport of Almaty. The Internet is full of shocking footage of attacks on banks, stores, commercial and administrative buildings.
Since the morning of January 6, a cleanup operation against instigators of the riots began in the city. Police appealed to the population not to leave their homes.
The activity of banks and the stock exchange was suspended in the country. Internet and cell-phone service is disrupted throughout much of Kazakhstan.
Also, Tokayev replaced heads of Kazakhstan's law enforcement agencies, and troops are being brought into major cities. -02D-
