Details of Charges against Eldar Hasanov Remain Unknown
Baku / 14.08.20 / Turan: The sensational news about the detention of Eldar Hasanov, the Azerbaijani ambassador to Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro on August 12, has not yet been overgrown with details.
It is not yet known exactly what he is accused of. The official wording “embezzlement of budget funds” does not clarify much. The assertions of the investigation that Eldar Hasanov “spent significant budgetary funds for other purposes and committed other offenses” also says little.
The ambassador's lawyer does not comment on the situation, and the articles of the criminal code under which the charges were brought are also unknown. However, if we take into account that Hasanov is associated with the previously arrested high-ranking officials of the Consular Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then the charges will be the same - embezzlement of state funds, and bribery as part of an organized group.
After 24 hours, information about Hasanov's arrest did not appear. He remains detained and in this status, he can be 48 hours.
So far, there is no order from the head of state to dismiss Hasanov from the post of ambassador.
In this whole situation, attention is drawn to the personal qualities of Eldar Hasanov, known as a very cunning and ambitious politician. It is for this reason that in due time Heydar Aliyev dismissed him from the post of prosecutor general and sent him as ambassador to Romania.
As for conjectures, it is possible that the accusation of corruption is just a cover, and the real reason for the detention of the ambassador has political roots. A number of observers in this regard recall the words of Ilham Aliyev on July 15 that some diplomats are engaged in hostile activities abroad, instead of serving the interests of the state. -02B-
