ECHR Announces Decision on Case of T. Zeynalov Killed in MNS of Nakhchivan
Baku / 10.09.20 / Turan: The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) on September 10 announced a decision on the case of Turach Zeynalov, who, according to his family, was tortured to death in the former Ministry of National Security of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR) in 2011.
The applicant in the case was the father of the deceased, Shuriya Zeynalov. He asked to admit violations under Art. 2 (right to life) and 3 (prohibition of torture and inhuman treatment) of the European Convention on Human Rights and Freedoms.
The ECHR upheld the complaint, ordering to pay the applicant compensation for non-pecuniary damage in the amount of 35 thousand euros and another 2 thousand euros for reimbursement of legal costs.
T. Zeynalov worked at the Nakhchivan airport. He was arrested in 2011 on charges of espionage for Iran. He died in jail - according to the authorities, from cancer. However, relatives released a photo of the corpse, which showed numerous traces of torture.
Zeynalov's parents demanded an investigation into the circumstances of the death, believing that the cause of death was torture. However, this was not done. Moreover, the relatives of the deceased were subjected to threats and blackmail. –06D-
