EU fears escalation of the conflict between Baku and Yerevan
EU called on Baku and Yerevan to prevent the escalation of tension due to extradition and pardon of Ramil Safarov, who was sentenced for the murder of Armenian officer, said on Monday, Maya Kasyanich, a representative of Catherine Ashton, the High Commissioner for Foreign Policy.
"We call on Azerbaijan and Armenia to exercise restraint in their public statements, in order to prevent any escalation of the situation," said Kasyanchich reporters in Brussels, RIA Novosti reported.
She said the EU is particularly concerned about the possible consequences for the entire region of South Caucasus, that may arise from the situation prevailing now. -02D-
