European Court takes up the appeal of Murad Adilov
The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has accepted a complaint of Popular Front Party activist Murad Adilov, convicted in Azerbaijan. He complained of torture against him. The lawyer Yalcin Imanov said that the complaint states a violation of the Article 3 of the European Convention for Human Rights and Freedoms (prohibition of torture.)
According to the lawyer, after the arrest on 11 August 2014, Adilov was beaten for an hour in Sabirabad police, who forced him make confession.
Despite complaints of protection, prosecutors refused to file a lawsuit, and the courts of Azerbaijan rejected the complaint on the decision of the prosecutor's office. In this regard, the defense filed with the ECHR.
Earlier, the ECHR accepted a statement of Adilov on violation under the Article 5 (right to liberty and security.) Protection also intends to file a third complaint on the merits of the criminal case against M.Adilov.
* Adilov was convicted in May of this year to 6 years in prison on charges of drug trafficking. He is the brother of Natig Adilov, an opposition journalist, announcer of the television program "Azerbaijani hour" who is in forced emigration.—06D--
