Ex-Interior Minister Starts Hunger Strike
Baku / 01.02.19 / Turan: Former Interior Minister Iskender Hamidov has been on hunger strike since January 31, he told Turan.
In this way, he protests against summoning a 16-year-old 10th grade high school student to Shirvan.
According to Hamidov, the teenager was taken to the police without parents and teachers.
Moreover, it happened three times - on January 20, then on the 26th and 28th.
For the first time, the student was taken to the police immediately after returning to Shirvan from Baku, where she participated in a visit to the Alley of Martyrs.
The police asked the teenager why she participated in a visit to the Alley of Martyrs together with the opposition, why she joined the Popular Movement of Azerbaijan.
According to Hamidov, the hunger strike will be held in shifts by activists.
"Our action is not a death hunger strike. It aims to attract public attention to lawlessness and punish those responsible," said the former minister.
Hamidov headed the Ministry of Internal Affairs in 1992-93. In March 1995, he was arrested and sentenced to 14 years in prison. However, in 2004 he was released ahead of time by a pardon order.
After liberation, Hamidov founded the National Democratic Party of Azerbaijan.
On January 26, 2019, Hamidov, together with a group of individuals, announced the creation of the Popular Movement of Azerbaijan. -05B06--
