Baku/06.03.21/Turan: On March 5, the seventh, extraordinary congress of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) ended. It is known that the congress did not re-elect to the leadership of the party some functionaries who had previously been criticized by the press and the country's leadership for various reasons, liquidated some administrative party structures and created new ones. First Vice-President of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva was elected the first deputy chairman of the party, President I. Aliyev.
"The congress of NAP did not bring any benefit to Azerbaijan and the people, just as this party does not participate in the social and political life of the country, being the executive political structure of the ruling family," Arif Hajili, chairman of the opposition Musavat party, said in an interview with Turan.
The presidential decisions were formally approved at the congress. “NAP is not an independent party; in fact, it performs the function of a structure of pressure on figures disliked by the authorities. After the congress, this significance of it increased, since unwanted persons were excluded from NAP, the mechanism of collegiality was removed, and persons loyal to the ruling family were gathered in the governing bodies. The purpose of these changes is to ensure that in the event of a possible political crisis, NAP does not get out of the control of the authorities,” he said.
A. Hajili named only one benefit from the congress for the people: “NAP adopted fictitious parties, the names of which were not known to the people, and these organizations were not marked with any activity. It will be useful if NAP accepts about 50 such parties existing in Azerbaijan, whose declared goals do not differ from the aspirations of NAP,” he said.
The leader of Musavat drew attention to the isolation of NAP from the needs of the people. During the 44-day war and following the results of hostilities, the ruling party did not come up with an important statement or initiative for the country, while all opposition parties and civil society declared their readiness to do everything for victory, calling on the people to unite in the name of victory,” A. Hajili said.
The chairman of the Umid (Hope) party, Igbal Aghazadeh, told Turan about the completely absent significance of the NAP congress for the life of Azerbaijanis and politics in the country.
“This party was created only to bring together officials, citizens of different professions, so that they could not become members of other parties and take an active part in political life. NAP is needed to control the life of these people and influence public opinion in Azerbaijan,” I. Aghazadeh said.
He does not consider NAP and the congress of this party significant for the country, since in NAP only a few members are the leaders who determine the events in the state.
Eldar Ibrahimov, a member of the Political Council of NAP, a deputy of the Milli Mejlis, in an interview with Turan highly appreciated the importance of the extraordinary congress in consolidating and strengthening the leadership of the party for the prompt resolution of issues.
Having listed the structural changes in NAP, he said the new composition of the organization's leadership will be able to meet the challenges of the time, while the functionaries who created the party are not forgotten, becoming members of the Council of Veterans. “We are the ones who were not afraid of reprisals in the days of the hard for the country, when we created NAP in Nakhchivan, and I am glad of the awareness of the respectful attitude of the chairman of NAP to its creators.
E. Ibrahimov believes that the election of Mehriban Aliyeva to the post of First Deputy Chairman of the party is the right decision, since M. Aliyeva's merits are undeniable, and everyone knows about them.
He called NAP’s success the entry of several other parties into it, because they decided that common political tasks with the ruling party make a separate existence from NAP meaningless for them.
“The congress of NAP will contribute to the development of democracy and political freedoms in the country,” E. Ibrahimov summed up. -0—
