Family of murdered journalist demands investigation of money laundering between Malta and Azerbaijan
Baku/26.11.19/Turan: The family of the two-year-old Maltese journalist Daphne Caruana Galicia urged Europol to provide the necessary support to investigators, prosecutors and judges investigating money laundering between Malta and Azerbaijan through the UAE. This is stated in the family press release.
“Three years after our mother uncovered Keith Schembri’s financial crimes, and two years after her murder, Keith Schembri resigned as head of administration of the Prime Minister of Malta, Joseph Muscat.
Now we urge the Maltese authorities to immediately prosecute Chambray for his widespread and long-standing criminal activities,” the press release said.
The family of the late journalist also calls for an investigation into why Prime Minister Joseph Muscat defended Keith Schembri and Conrad Mizzi (the government minister) for three years.
“The refusal to persecute Keith Schembri, Mizzi and their defenders had fatal consequences for our mother. If this failure continues, it will have fatal consequences for democracy in Malta,” the appeal concluded.
Corruption investigations of Daphne Galicia revealed the facts of laundering large sums of money through various banks and financial institutions, which were then transported to third countries. Among the sources of dirty money were indicated Azerbaijan, Moldova and Russia. —16D—
