Former Armenian Armed Forces officer charged with spying for Azerbaijan
Baku/12.05.21/Turan: The National Security Service of Armenia has completed an investigation into the case of a former soldier accused of spying for Azerbaijan.
The officer of the Armenian Armed Forces, whose name is not given, previously held high positions
and had access to secret documents. He passed the information to the Azerbaijani side for a fee, the Armenian National Security Service said.
According to the same source, the officer was recruited in Georgia, where he was given instructions to collect information.
The officer had financial problems and wanted to solve them by selling secret data. He collected data on the personnel, locations, weapons, and equipment of the units of the Armed Forces of Armenia and Karabakh. He kept all the documents at home.
Using contacts in the army and in Karabakh, he periodically met with military personnel and collected information, which he then passed on to the Azerbaijani side in Georgia. Some meetings were held on the territory of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tbilisi.
The former soldier was charged under part 1 of Article 299 (high treason), he was arrested.-02D-

According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, officials from the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office's Anti-Smuggling Unit have detained an Azerbaijani citizen with a large shipment of gold. The detention took place near the Vadi İstanbul shopping center in the Sarıyer district, where a taxi was stopped. During the search, 70 kg of gold was found. The Azerbaijani citizen in the vehicle claimed ownership of the cargo and also stated that he was a diplomat. The investigation by the prosecutor's office is ongoing, reports Sabah newspaper. The media outlet does not disclose the name of the "diplomat," only his initials – M.G.Ş. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declined to comment on the situation.
