Former "prisoner of conscience" Jabbar Savalan rearrested

Sumgayit City Court on March 1 sentenced to 20 days of administrative arrest a member of the Youth Committee of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA ) Jabbar Savalan.

The young man was arrested in the yard of his house in Sumgait in the morning.

Only in the evening his relatives were reported that he was arrested on charges of "hooliganism " and "not subordinating to the police," said the deputy chairman of PFPA Gozal Bayramli. However , according to her, the young man is persecuted for political reasons and in particular for attending the procession of the National Council on February 26 after visiting the memorial to the victims of the Khojaly tragedy.

 She drew attention to the fact that Savalan was the fourth PFPA activist arrested administratively for participation in the march on February 26.

Another activist, Tofig Dadashov, was arrested for 10 days for the call via Facebook to hold protests demanding the resignation of the head of the administration of Baku Hajibala Abutalibov.

Jabbar Savalan had previously been arrested . He was arrested on charges of drug possession , two weeks after having taken an active part in the procession of the opposition January 20, 2011 on the occasion of the 21st anniversary of the January tragedy. Savalan was sentenced to two years of imprisonment. Amnesty İnternational declared him a "prisoner of conscience." At the end of 2011 Savalan was pardoned.

After that, he was not restored to the university and was drafted into the army.  --0--
