Former supporter of Mutallibov sees Mehriban Aliyeva as vice president
The Movement "National unity for the country" issued a statement in connection with the referendum on amendments to the Constitution. Recent developments have become a turning point in the history of the country, and were necessary for strengthening, socio-economic and political development, the document says. The authors emphasize the creation of the post of the first vice-president and vice-presidents, who will "helpt solve quickly internal socio-economic and future external challenges," the document says. As the first vice-president the Movement sees the First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, reads the statement.
The authors believe that "if M.Aliyeva becomes a first vice-president, it will solve many problems of the country. In particular, the Karabakh problem will be solvedsoon, will strengthen the position of Azerbaijan in the international arena, and the national reconciliationwill be acvhieved." The authors of the statement do not explain on what such confidence is based.
The leader of this Movement is Abdul Abdulov - a former ardent supporter of ex-president Ayaz Mutalibov. In the late 80s, he created and headed the religious society "Tovbe", and later was a leader of the religious community of "Imam Hussein" mosque in Baku.
This is the second initiative of the Movement to nominate Mehriban Aliyevato the first position in the state hierarchy. In August 2013, on the eve of the presidential elections, a month earlier, the Movement "National unity for the country" sated the nomination of MP Mehriban Aliyeva a candidate for president of the First Lady of Azerbaijan. But the First lady did not participate in the elections, and the Movement stepped back. In June 2013 candidacy of Mehriban Aliyeva launched the newly formed group calling itself the party of "World of Democratic Azerbaijan". However, this idea was received with hostility by the "Yeni Azerbaijan" ruling party, which regarded it as a provocation. Activists of this idea subsequently were subjected to pressure and discontinued operations.-05D-
