Grandfather of Arrested Activist Tried to Commit Suicide
The grandfather of the detained board member of the movement NIDA Rashadat Akhundov 74-year-old Inayat Akhundov tried to commit suicide.
This happened after he learned of the nomination of the new charges against his grandson, aggravating the punishment. The elderly man slashed his wrists, a local activist told Turan.
Currently Inayat Akhundov is the intensive care unit of the Sabunchu hospital.
Rashadat Akhundov is one of the seven activists, NIDA, arrested in March and April of this year on charges of illegal possession of explosives or drugs.
September 12 he and a member of the movement Free Youth Ilkin Rustamzadeh were filed new charges under Article 220.1 (creation of riots).
Now they face penalties of up to 12 years in prison. All of them were recognized by the international organization Amnesty International "prisoners of conscience". -16V06 –
