Greece Recalls Ambassador for Consultations
Baku / 08.10.20 / Turan: The Ambassador of Greece to Azerbaijan Nikolaos Piperigkos was summoned to Athens for consultations by the decision of Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias. This was reported by the Greek Foreign Ministry.
The message released by the Greek Foreign Ministry on October 7 says it was done, “following the absolutely unsubstantiated and offensive statements by the Azerbaijani government about the alleged tolerance of the Greek state to the preparation of terrorist acts, attempts to recruit terrorist fighters and cyber attacks from Greek territory against Azerbaijan, in the context of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh."
In this regard, on October 6, Athens sent an official note of protest to official Baku through Azerbaijani Ambassador Anar Huseynov.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan issued a statement on October 3, in which it accused Armenia of attracting ethnic Armenians from other states to participate in hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh. According to the Foreign Ministry, "thousands of Armenian origin citizens of Syria, Lebanon, Russia, Georgia, Greece, the United Arab Emirates and other countries" have already arrived to participate in the battles or are preparing to arrive.
Yesterday the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, commenting on the recall of the ambassador, stated that information about the sending of Armenian citizens of Greece to Karabakh was obtained from open sources. The Greek side was asked to check their reliability. -0-
