Hearings on human rights in Azerbaijan to be held in the framework of autumn session of PACE
Baku / 07.10.17 / Turan: On October 9, parallel discussions will be held aside event of the fall session of PACE on the topic: " Time to Put an End to Laundromat and Hold Azerbaijan Accountable."
The hearings organized by the Azerbaijani Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety (IRFS) with the support of former PACE President Anne Brasser will be held at the Palais de l'Europe from 13.00 to 14.00 local time.
Speakers at the meeting will be co-chairman of the emigrant Movement for Democracy, former Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the Council of Europe Arif Mammadov, head of the IRFS Emin Huseynov, president of the Center for the Development of Democracy and Human Rights Yuri Dzhibladze and director of the analytical center "Files of Freedom" Olga Zakharova.
The organizers of the hearings believe that the report of the international journalistic network OCCRP "Azerbaijan Land-Rumat", which revealed the bribery of a number of PACE deputies in order to support the policy of official Baku, should "shake the PACE, designed to defend the European standards of democracy and honesty."
Speakers will present the latest information on cases of human rights violations in Azerbaijan and their considerations, which is necessary in order to ensure that Azerbaijan fulfills its obligations to the Council of Europe.
It should be noted that on October 11, the report "The functioning of democratic institutions in Azerbaijan" prepared by the co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee of the Assembly Stefan Schennak (Austria) and Cesar Florin Preda (Romania) will be discussed at the PACE session. 06D-
