How to solve the problem of providing students with housing?
Baku/09.30.19/Turan: On September 30, at the first meeting of the autumn session the Milli Majlis considered a question about the absence f dormitories for students.
MP Ganira Pashayeva said the need to pass a law on educational loans to solve many issues, including providing students with housing.
Commenting on the proposal to Turan, expert Kamran Asadov said that students should be provided with housing in dormitories, and not loans for renting apartments.
There are 51 universities in Azerbaijan, where 164 thousand students study. 31 universities are located in Baku, but only seven universities in the country have dormitories.
For comparison, the expert pointed out that in Turkey 210 universities have 710 hostels.
He believes that universities can use their loans to buy apartments in nearby new buildings and rent them to students at low prices - 40-50 manats per month and repay the loan using the proceeds.
The lack of dormitories is one of the reasons for the non-representation of Azerbaijani universities in international university ratings.
Public activist and expert Bakhtiyar Hajiyev also noted that in developed countries, universities have their own campuses where students live, paying a certain fee.
If the student finds it difficult to pay for tuition and accommodation, he is provided with a long-term loan for 20 years. Moreover, the return of the loan begins two years after graduation.
It should be noted that internally displaced persons are still placed in hostels of a number of Azerbaijani universities. -06D-
