If EU rejects Azerbaijani gas, companies will have to pay fine - Ilham Aliyev
Baku/11.10.24/Turan: After the anti-terrorist operation in Karabakh, relations between Azerbaijan and France have "actually stopped", Ilham Aliyev said in an interview with local TV channels.
According to him, "France is already openly conducting anti-Azerbaijani activities." In particular, he mentioned the attempt to adopt a UN Security Council resolution and sanctions against Azerbaijan. Such attempts have been made five times and failed," Aliyev noted.
He also emphasised that the European Union "did not follow the lead" of France, although the head of the EU's foreign diplomacy was among those who supported France's policy against Azerbaijan".
He also emphasised the growing demand for Azerbaijani gas in Europe. Already six EU countries receive gas from Azerbaijan and the number will grow.
After the September operation in Karabakh, some of the European leaders, including the head of the European Parliament, said it was necessary to stop gas co-operation with Azerbaijan.
"If this position prevails, companies that have signed long-term contracts with us will have to pay fines of hundreds of millions, if not billions of euros. Therefore, responsible persons making such absurd statements should be more careful," Aliyev said.
"It is impossible to speak to us in a threatening language or behave arrogantly," Aliyev said, making it clear that Baku will not change its political line in relations with the West. -06В-
