II Global Media Forum opens in Shusha
The II Global Media Forum opens today in the cultural capital of Azerbaijan, Shusha. The main topic of the forum, dedicated to National Press Day (July 22), will be ”Exposing false information: combating disinformation.” Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev will deliver a speech at the forum today.
Within the framework of the forum, which will last until July 22 four panel sessions will be held: "Impact assessment: determining the extent of disinformation", "Policies and initiatives to build a more disinformation-resistant society", "The impact of artificial intelligence on reality, media and disinformation: increasing media literacy", and "The Climate Movement and the Media".
The forum will be attended by more than 150 foreign guests from almost 50 countries.
They represent news agencies from about 30 countries, 3 international organizations and 82 media bodies.
Representatives of independent media of Azerbaijan are not invited to the forum.
The first Shusha Global Media Forum was held on July 21-23, 2023.

Germany's Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, who arrived in Baku today, held a press conference at the COP29 climate conference. When asked about the arrested climate activists and opposition figures in Azerbaijan, she stated that Germany advocates for the release of government critics and that she would raise this issue during her meeting with Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister. She specifically mentioned the name of Professor Gubad Ibadoglu, a doctor from Dresden University.

Activist Nijat Ibrahim, who was detained in Baku pre-trial detention center-1, inflicted numerous wounds on himself on November 20 in protest against unjustified criminal prosecution, his wife Parvin Ibrahim told Turan. According to her, on November 21, her husband called her and informed her that the day before he had inflicted incised wounds on himself with a piece of mirror. In particular, he cut his throat and ears.
