Important Statement by Putin: War Not on Territory of Armenia
Moscow / 07.10.20 / Turan: Russia calls on all forces in Nagorno-Karabakh to cease fire. This was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin in an exclusive interview to the TV channels Russia 1 and Russia 24 on the President's birthday on October 7.
Putin stressed that all the parties to the conflict are "not strangers to us." There are about 2 million Azerbaijanis and over 2 million Armenians living in Russia. A huge number of Russian citizens maintain close friendly and even family relations with both republics. The death of people, heavy losses on both sides is a huge tragedy, Putin said.
"We hope that this conflict will be ended in the very near future. But if it is not completely settled, apparently, this is still a long way off, but in any case, we urge, and I want to say this again, we urge an end to the fire. And as soon as possible it is necessary to do it," stressed the President of Russia.
He also recalled that Armenia is a member of the CSTO, and within the framework of this agreement, Russia has certain obligations to Armenia.
The fighting is not being conducted on the territory of Armenia.
"As for the fulfillment by Russia of its treaty obligations under this agreement, we have always fulfilled, are fulfilling and will continue to fulfill our obligations," Putin said.
The President said that he is in "constant live working contact" with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, "and the Armenian leadership does not have any questions about the quality of Russia's fulfillment of its allied obligations." -02D-
