In Case of Sanctions Baku Threatens Retaliation for Washington
The presidential aide Ali Hasanov named Christopher Smith’s bill imposing sanctions against state officials of Azerbaijan "a hostile step" that does not mean the position of official Washington.
Hasanov called the author of the bill "pro-Armenian", which achieves recognition of the "Armenian genocide".
"So we should not take this issue seriously. We hope that this action will also be rejected by US officials, and the project will go down in history as another unfulfilled dream of pro-Armenian forces," Hasanov said.
He further said that in Azerbaijan there are forces that want to stop strategic partnership with the United States and to respond adequately to the biased attitude towards Azerbaijan. "However, as I said, we are interested in developing relations with the United States."
"However, if the US officially supports this biased project, the Azerbaijani authorities will properly respond. Let no one have any doubt," concluded Hasanov. -02D-
