Iran Admitted It Shot Down Ukrainian Boeing-737 with Air Defense Missile
Tehran / 11.01.20 / Turan: The Iranian General Staff announced on January 11 that the Ukrainian Boeing-737 crashed on near Tehran on Wednesday was mistakenly shot down by an Iranian air defense missile, the IRNA news agency reported.
The statement by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Iran noted that during the plane crash, which occurred a few hours after missile attacks on the US bases in Iraq, flights of US military aircraft significantly increased. "This circumstance caused increased sensitivity among air defense units. As a result of a human error and by accident this plane was shot down, which, unfortunately, led to the death of our compatriots and foreign citizens," the General Staff of the Armed Forces stated.
The statement notes that the Ukrainian plane was in close proximity to one of the important military facilities of the Corps of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution and in shape and height of flight resembled an enemy aircraft. -02D-
