Jamil Hasanli Can Become Candidate from National Council
Professor Jamil Hasanli can become a backup single candidate for the presidency from the National Council. According to a source in the National Council, the political parties have come to such an agreement.
Hasanli himself in the talk with Turan has neither denied nor confirmed this information. "Let's wait for the National Council Session, which is scheduled for 16:00," said Hasanli.
In turn, the Chairman of the Open Society Party Sulhaddin Akbar told Turan his party was not involved and did not intend to participate in the discussion of nominating a spare single candidate.
"We already have a single candidate from the National Council, while the nomination of a substitute candidate puts in doubt the candidacy of Rustam Ibrahimbekov. This enables the government to register the alternate candidate, which will let them talk about democratic elections," said Akbar.
The Chairman of the Classic Popular Front Mirmahmud Miralioglu said that the nomination as an alternate candidate of Jamil Hasanli was not coordinated with political parties.
The head of the executive office of the National Council Eldar Namazov told Turan that today's session of the National Council will discuss a spare single candidate. He expressed the hope that the result will be positive.
Recall that the question of alternate candidate came after the authorities expressed their reluctance to register the candidacy of Ibrahimbekov due to the presence of his Russian citizenship. At the same time, the abolition of his legal registration as Russian citizen is still delayed. -03B04-
