Journalists in Guba region are sentenced to probation

 

 Today  the Khachmaz  regional  court published a  verdict against six accused in the riots in the  Guba region on 1 March, 2012.
The court sentenced the head of the municipality Elkhan Aliyev to five years of imprisonment, an employee of the local department  of State Property Committee, Zakir Mammadov, to four  years, the owner of  filling station, Gulaga Agayev, to 2.5 years, his grandson Mukhtar Alekperov to 3.5 years in prison. At the same time, the Executive Director of the Guba  TV channel "Khayal TV", Vugar Gonagov, and chief editor of the channel, Zaur Guliyev,  have been sentenced to three years of probation.
 
 Five of the accused were found guilty under Article 233 (organization of actions aimed at disturbing public order) and 309.2 (abuse of power). Alekperov has  been convicted under articles 186.2.2 (destruction of another's property by arson, leading to serious consequences) and 315.2 (use of violence dangerous to life and health of a government official.)
 
Total number of the accused on  Guba events is 30 people, 10 of them  got real sentences, others  were punished  on probation. 
 
** On 1 March, 2012  the  protest  actions of Guba residents against the Chief Executive, Rauf Khabibov, turned into riots.  The residents destroyed  and fired Habibov’s villa.—16C-
