Lavrov and Bayramov on the results of negotiations
Moscow/26.08.20/Turan: Following bilateral talks in Moscow, Foreign Ministers of the Russian Federation and Azerbaijan Sergei Lavrov and Jeyhun Bayramov held a press conference.
Sergey Lavrov noted the importance of cultural, humanitarian and economic ties for the development of bilateral relations and respect for the Russian language. On regional issues, the
two countries' positions coincide or are very close, and cooperation in the OSCE and other structures is proceeding successfully.
They spoke in detail about the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict and the need to create an atmosphere for achieving results on a peaceful settlement, Lavrov said. In response, Jeyhun Bayramov called bilateral relations with Russia an example of a successful partnership between the two countries. He noted the importance of economic ties and the growth of trade between the countries, which exceeded $ 3 billion. Referring to the Karabakh conflict, he noted Baku pins special hope on Russia as one of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group.
Armenia continues to violate international law, holding 20% of the territories of Azerbaijan, expelling the civilian population from there. The fighting on the border with Armenia on July 12-16 was a provocation aimed at endangering the transport infrastructure of Azerbaijan.
The international community should influence Armenia to continue meaningful negotiations on the settlement and implementation of the well-known UN Security Council resolutions and restore the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, Bayramov said.
When asked what steps are being taken or expected for the settlement, Bayramov noted that the negotiations should not be "imitation", but serve to achieve specific goals.
In turn, Sergei Lavrov said that over the years of negotiations, the parties have worked out a whole array of documents, which enshrined a comprehensive approach to settlement. “There is no agreement on all points. There were attempts to change the composition of the negotiators, which is not acceptable, ”he said.
“I agree that we should be guided by the decisions that the international community has worked out, including the resolutions of the UN Security Council,” Lavrov said. -02D-
