Lavrov and Mammadyarov on Economics and Military Cooperation
Baku / 03.12.19 / Turan: "Yesterday we had a very eventful meeting with the President of Azerbaijan. Following the meeting, very important agreements were reached," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a joint press conference with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov in Baku on Tuesday.
“We talked about the international agenda, as well as cooperation in the framework of international organizations. We also discussed cooperation on the Caspian and the coordination of efforts for cooperation. The economy is expected to grow by almost 15% at the end of the year. As for humanitarian cooperation, growth is also observed here,” he said.
He further noted the importance of military-technical cooperation between the parties. “I can only emphasize that military-technical cooperation is one of the important areas of strategic partnership between Moscow and Baku. We are developing military-technical cooperation in full compliance with international law - with full balance in the region and the importance of maintaining stability,” he said.
Mammadyarov, in turn, added that cooperation in this area has always been on the agenda. “There are certain ideas. We’ll give information to the media on how the deal will be,” he said.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Minister also said that a protocol was signed between the Azerbaijani and Russian Foreign Ministries as a result of the talks.
“There is serious growth in the economy, and trade is growing, which by the end of the year can reach $ 3 billion. Azerbaijan is the main trading partner of Russia in the South Caucasus,” Mammadyarov said. -02D-
