Lavrov pleased with the Karabakh peace process, unlike the Armenian foreign minister
Baku/06.05.21/Turan: The situation "on the ground" in Nagorno-Karabakh has stabilized, with minor incidents being resolved quickly and effectively by Russian peacekeepers. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a briefing in Yerevan on Thursday.
"We are seeing positive trends in the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement. The situation on the ground has significantly improved. The Russian peacekeeping contingent acts as a security guarantor and is deployed along the line of contact and along the Lachin corridor.
Minor incidents, without which no operation would likely be possible, are dealt with quickly and effectively by our peacekeepers. They pay constant attention to the completion of the exchange of military prisoners, "Lavrov said.
Lavrov also stated that the trilateral working group at the level of deputy prime ministers "works actively and rhythmically, and we are interested in continuing and contributing to the establishment of a dialogue between Baku and Yerevan to ensure the South Caucasus's sustainable economic development."
Lavrov called for refraining from politicizing the Karabakh peace process. "Such attempts turn the process upside down," he said.
In his turn, Armenian Minister Ara Ayvazyan again raised the issue of returning prisoners of war and resuming the peace process under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs. He also asked Lavrov to help the population of Karabakh, restore the economy of the region and preserve the historical and cultural heritage.-0-
