Parents of the defendants of "Ganja case" received by the Ombudsman
Baku/06.05.21/Turan: A group of parents of defendants of "Ganja case" was received today by the Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva.
The parents asked support to release of their children. After the meeting, the parents expressed their satisfaction with the results of the conversation.
“No officials have ever received us so sincerely. The Ombudsman assured that she will do all she can, accepting our applications and appeals. She also promised to visit our children in prison”, said one of the participants.
One of the defendants in the case, Firudin Zeynalov, is on a hunger strike and, and he was visited by representatives of Ombedsman.
*On July 3, 2018, in Ganja city, an attempt was made on the life of Elmar Veliyev - the head of the city. A native of Ganja, Yunis Safarov wounded him and his bodyguard.
After that, a protest rally in front of the Ganja administration building was scheduled for July 10. On that day, riots broke out in the city, during which two police officers were killed. This was followed by mass arrests of believers and others.
For these events, criminal cases were initiated against 70 people. The defendants were sentenced to 6 to 18 years in prison. About 10 people were released on parole. The trial against Safarov and 11 others began in January 2020. —30D06-
