Lavrov: Significant progress made at the last meeting of the trilateral commission
Baku/24.06.22/Turan: The meeting with President Aliyev was trusting and warm. Relations between Russia and Azerbaijan are of strategic importance. The parties are working on a new large package of bilateral agreements in various fields. The opening of the Russia-Azerbaijan-Iran transport corridor is of particular significance. This was said by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a briefing in Baku on Friday.
Also, he added that the sides signed an agreement on cooperation in information security on June 24.
Touching upon the Karabakh issue, Lavrov said that the last meeting of the trilateral commission on the opening of communications was productive. There is "significant progress" in the construction of railroad and automobile road between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He emphasized that Russian companies are ready to participate in the projects for the reconstruction of Karabakh.
Regarding the war in Ukraine, Lavrov said he shared his assessment of the operation in Ukraine during his meeting with President Aliyev. "We appreciate Azerbaijan's balanced assessment of the position on this issue," he said.
For his part, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said there is cautious optimism in assessing the situation in the talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan. "As compared to the situation a year ago, there are advances and we appreciate Russia's role in the normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan," Baramov said.
The Ministers also commented on the issue of blocking a number of media outlets in Russia and Azerbaijan. According to Lavrov, the consultations of the parties on these issues will continue and they must be regulated in line with the legislation of both countries.
In turn, Bayramov confirmed the existence of such consultations, expressing hope that the situation will be resolved with due regard for mutual interests. -02B-
