Leyla Yunus introduces the "Magnitsky list" for Azerbaijan

The U.S. Congress, the EU and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly will send an appeal calling to repeat analogue of the "Magnitsky list" for Azerbaijan, stated today, human rights activist, the head of the Institute for Peace and Democracy Leyla Yunus. The list included the names: of judges in Sheki Serious Crimes Court Elchin Kazymova, Rashid Huseynov, judges of Baku Serious Crimes Javid Huseynov, Novruz Kerimov, Rauf Aliyev, and Azer Orujov.

According to Yunus, the judges sentenced to long prison terms, eight members of the Movement NIDA, leader of the Movement REAL Ilgar Mamedov, deputy chairman of the party "Musavat" Tofig Yagublu, adviser leader of the same party Yadigar Sadigov,  journalist Parviz Hashimli, Hilal Mamedov, civil society activists Anar Mammadov and Bashir Suleymanli. All prisoners are recognized by international organizations as prisoners of conscience. The Azerbaijani analogue of  "Magnitsky list" prepares the Movement "Resistance to repression."

According to Yunus, on June 12, there were 130 prisoners and 41 prisoners of conscience in Azerbaijan. Until the end of July will be drawn up a list of police officers, prosecutors, security agencies, and by the end of August - political arrests customers. All lists will be sent to the U.S. Congress, the EU and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, as well as other international organizations.

"The list will cover those who are far from law, justice, conscience and God. A separate monitoring is conducted in respect of each of them, then the facts about their violations will be posted on the Internet," said Yunus.

"In his speech at the PACE on June 25 Ilham Aliyev will surely declare that there are no political prisoners in Azerbaijan. He will also tell about the independent courts and the rule of law," Yunus said with irony. Taking sanctions against the country's leadership is unrealistic, she admitted.

However, in subsequent lists will certainly be the name of Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov. The cases of political prisoners in this department is drawn up by group headed by Eldar Akhmedov. Among the customers are and the names of the Presidential Administration and the Ministry of Justice, said Yunus.

She intends to give a list at a meeting with U.S. senators and members of the U.S. Helsinki Commission later this week in Baku.  -03C04-
