London hails Azerbaijan's growing role in international affairs – Johnson
Baku/04.11.21/Turan: On the occasion of the VIII Global Baku Forum, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson sent a message to Azerbaijan’s President Aliyev, congratulating him, the organisers and the participants of the event.
The British Prime Minister remarked on the strength of UK-Azerbaijan cooperation and that next year will mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Noting that this year’s Forum coincides with COP26 in Glasgow, and that climate change is the biggest international challenge facing us all, the British Prime Minister welcomed the important steps Azerbaijan is taking to introduce ‘green energy’. The British Prime Minister also paid tribute to the women who are playing a leading role in Azerbaijan’s society and encouraged countries to build in a particular role for women in peacebuilding, including through adoption of National Action Plans on Women, Peace and Security.
“Our ties have evolved over the past 30 years, and currently the cooperation between the United Kingdom and Azerbaijan is going through a period of ascent. We remain your largest investor, and our relationship has further prospects,” the message says.
The United Kingdom, Johnson further emphasizes, welcomes Azerbaijan's growing role in international affairs, as well as its support in the fight against the use of chemical weapons and the suppression of drug trafficking.
The United Kingdom continues to maintain peace and stability in the Caucasus region, as well as addressing post-conflict issues. “I am horrified by the news of the death and injury of people as a result of mine explosions and unexploded ordnance,” says Johnson.
The United Kingdom encourages all States in the region to take steps to sign the relevant agreements, in particular the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.
“I also encourage all countries to build a special role for women in peacebuilding with the adoption of the National Plan of Action for Women, Peace and Security,” Johnson said in his message.
“The United Kingdom is a reliable partner of Azerbaijan and will remain so. I look forward to the sustainable development of our partnership in the years to come,” Johnson's message concludes. —06D-
