EU4Culture awards grants to three cities to promote cultural development in Azerbaijan
Baku/04.11.21/Turan: On 12th November, at 11:00, in Baku EU4Culture with the support of the Delegation of the European Union to Azerbaijan will organize an award ceremony to announce three selected cities that will receive 30 000 EUR grant to prepare the Cultural Development Strategies.
The call for grant applications was launched in May 2021. It aims to support non-capital cities and towns to develop and implement Cultural Development Strategies, following the approach of the European Capitals of Culture. Overall, 70 cities from 5 Eastern Partnership countries participated in the call. After evaluation of the submitted applications, the following 3 cities from Azerbaijan were selected: Shaki, Khirdalan, Lankaran.
Selected cities will receive up to 30 000 EUR grants to develop the Cultural Development Strategies. At the final stage of the call, one town or city out of these 3 will be awarded a grant of up to 300,000 EUR to implement its strategy.
The idea of the project is to support non-capital cities and small towns in the development and implementation of Cultural Development Strategies in accordance with the EU initiative "European Capital of Culture".
In total, 70 cities from 5 countries of the Eastern Partnership took part in the competition. After evaluating the submitted applications in Azerbaijan, the following 3 cities were selected: Sheki, Khirdalan and Lankaran.
The event will be attended by the Ambassador of the European Union to Azerbaijan, the head of the department of the Ministry of Culture, representatives of the State Agency for Tourism, heads of three cities, representatives of the EU4Culture project.
EU4Culture is a four-year project funded by the European Union to support culture and the creative sector with a particular focus on non-capital cities and towns in the Eastern Partnership countries. The project aims to make culture an engine of growth and social development throughout the region.
