China Imposes Retaliatory Tariffs on Coal, LNG, and Oil from the U.S.
China is introducing tariffs on U.S. imports of coal, liquefied natural gas (LNG), oil, agricultural machinery, and certain vehicles, according to the Ministry of Finance of the People's Republic of China. Coal and gas will be subject to a 15% tariff, while oil, agricultural machinery, and vehicles will face a 10% tariff.
These measures are a response to the U.S. increasing import tariffs on Chinese goods, as announced by President Donald Trump earlier.
"The unilateral imposition of tariffs by the U.S. seriously violates World Trade Organization rules. This not only fails to resolve their own problems but also undermines normal economic and trade cooperation between China and the U.S.," said the Chinese Ministry of Finance.
Earlier, Trump postponed the planned 25% tariffs on Mexican and Canadian goods, originally scheduled to take effect on February 4, by one month.
