L.Yunus demands from the authorities to stop the pressure on the family of Metanet Azizova
Defenders Leyla Yunus and Mirvari Gahramanli spent Friday in the Media Center IRFS press conference in connection with the so-called "spy case" against the journalist Rauf Mirkadirov. According to Yunus, the case against Mirkadirov is totally false. She called the "criminal" investigation team formed to investigate the case. Yunus drew attention to the fact that the same group of the Investigative Department for Serious Crimes Prosecutor General's Office led "political case" against the leader REAL Ilgar Mamedov, activists NIDA, head of the Elections Monitoring and Democracy Studies Center (EMDSC) Anar Mammadov.
With regard to leaving Azerbaijan by the human rights activist Metanet Azizova passing on the case Mirkadirov as witness and subjection her to pressure by the investigation, the Yunus said: "Azizov Metanet did not commit any crime, there was no court decision prohibiting her from leaving the country. By leaving the country she had not committed any crime. "According to her, during her stay in Azerbaijan, Metanet Azizova was interrogated for 8-10 hours, she was forced to sign some documents, was pressured, and for this reason she left the country. "Metanet Azizova did not fled the country, not hiding from the investigation. She will not testify because no crime committed, and therefore itself a consequence is unreasonable," continued Yunus. It was Yunus who as a member of the international human rights organization "Front-Line", adopted decision that Azizova should leave Azerbaijan.
Leyla Yunus called a flagrant violation of the law the fact that one of these days Azizova’s husband and wife was not given a permission to leave Azerbaijan. "There is not any decision against these people, their names are not on a specific crime, for whatever reason they cannot leave the country? It was committed by the Investigation Department of the Attorney General for Serious Crimes, which does not have such powers," said Yunus. According to her, by this the prosecutor's office wants to return to Azizova to Azerbaijan, and therefore made hostages her husband and son. "They vain hope that it will help them to return Azizova to the country," Yunus said. She reported that on May 23 she announced a campaign to protect the rights of family members Azizova.
Leyla Yunus made several recommendations to reporters that are summoned in the case of Rauf Mirkadirov: not sign a non-disclosure document, and immediately publish the information they gave to the investigation.
Samira Agayeva, a representative of Azizova said that she spoke speaking about the ban on leaving her husband and son Azizova with investigators who have given an indication of the travel ban.
