Court of Appeal Releases Adviser to Head of PFPA

Baku / 13.02.19 / Turan: The advisor to the chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, Mammad Ibrahim, was released from prison today.

This decision was made by the Baku Court of Appeal, partially satisfying Ibrahim"s complaint against the verdict of the Surakhani District Court of January 10, 2019, which extended his arrest for 5 months 22 days, finding him guilty of keeping a prohibited item in prison.

The Baku Court of Appeal reduced the term of imprisonment to 4 months and 16 days and released him in the courtroom.

According to the lawyer Javad Javadov, the defense insisted on acquittal, but the complaint was met partially.

The defense intends to continue the struggle until the full rehabilitation of Ibrahim.

Mammad Ibrahim was arrested on November 30, 2015 and subsequently sentenced to 3 years in prison on charges of hooliganism. However, two days after the expiration of his term, he was accused of keeping a knife in prison. Ibrahim denied this and the previous charges.

Human rights activists recognized him as a political prisoner. -06D-
