Meeting of Fouders of Forum of Azerbaijani Intelligentsia

Yesterday there was a meeting of the founders of the Forum of Azerbaijani Intelligentsia (FAI). Discussed at the meeting was the socio-political situation in the country developed in recent years, as well as the moral atmosphere in society.

The participants also exchanged views on some of the negative developments in the social life of Azerbaijan, on the situation of human rights aggravating day by day, strengthening the repressive methods during the pre-election situation, the persecution of people for their political position, the disclosure of corruption scandals related to Azerbaijan at the international level.
 
 The meeting also expressed concern about the detention on trumped up charges of the REAL movement's leader Ilgar Mamedov, deputy chairman of the party Musavat Tofig Yagublu, lawyer Gurban Mammadov, youth activists of NIDA, journalists, and members of the Islamic Party, one of the founders of the FAI, Professor Jamil Hasanli told Turan.
 
    During the discussion there was evaluated a number of issues related to education. An extensive discussion was dedicated to the results of the final examinations in two subjects in the IX and XI classes of secondary schools in 18 cities and regions, which can be called extremely disappointing. It was noted that 46.6% of the students in the IX classes got "two" (bad) in the native language. The same bad scores were on maths at 40.9% of the students in the IX classes. As for the students of the XI classes, 30% of the graduates received "two". These facts are causing concern among the co-sponsors of the FAI.
As they noted, these figures reflect the situation in the social life of the country. It is regarded as a "crisis of social policy of Azerbaijan."
Given the complexity of the situation, the meeting decided to discuss the current difficult situation in the education system of the country and the ways out of the crisis with the participation of specialists in the near future.
 
The meeting also considered applications to join the Forum. In particular, they decided to admit the known lawyer Fuad Mustafayev to FAI ​​and elect him to its Coordination Council.  -06d--
