A member of the European Parliament from Germany Viola von Cramon made a statement in connection with the decision of the European Parliament to send an observation mission for the presidential elections in Azerbaijan on October 9.
"We welcome the European Parliament's decision to send a mission to monitor the elections in Azerbaijan. We hope that the mission of the European Parliament will help to ensure that the democratic opposition will be able to compete in the elections and will not be blocked.
We criticize the Government of Azerbaijan for the exclusion of the candidate from the democratic opposition, Rustam Ibrahimbekov from the election process," she said in the statement received by the agency Turan.
Next, the deputy noted that "the development of the human rights situation in Azerbaijan is a concern." Thus, the authorities have banned free and peaceful assembly and association.
