MIA Ready for Elections - Ramil Usubov
Baku / 16.03.18 / Turan: The Interior Ministry approved a plan of measures to protect public order and security of citizens during the presidential elections on April 11. Measures are taken to implement the plan, Ramil Usubov, the Minister, told the Interior Ministry Board on March 16.
The Minister spoke about measures to ensure identity cards of all voters in the capital and regions. According to him, there is a reliable protection of places where presidential candidates will conduct their agitation.
The Minister also spoke about the authorities' concern for the internal affairs bodies, which he confirmed, referring to the salary increase, and assured that all the tasks facing the Ministry of Internal Affairs would be met with dignity.
In the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a special working group was set up to check incoming information on violations during the election, Oktay Kerimov, head of the Public Security Department, said in turn.
"The Ministry of Internal Affairs and its subdivisions will switch to an enhanced operation mode and ensure the protection of polling stations and commissions. More than 12,000 policemen will be fully engaged, and the number of patrols in the streets to ensure order in public places will be increased," he said.
The head of the Department of Passports, Registration and Migration Nusret Shirinov told about the work to provide citizens with identity cards. According to him, from May 16 last year to March 1 this year 14 thousand identity cards were issued. From September 2001 to March this year, 8 million 614 thousand 710 citizens were provided with identity cards, including 6 million 748 thousand 524 people over the age of 16. -0-

On Monday, the Baku Appeals Court considered the appeal of Talysh researcher Iqbal Abilov against the extension of his detention for another four months. The defense argued that the decision to extend Abilov's detention was unjustified, lawyer Fariz Namazly told reporters.
