MNS generals arrested for extortion and abuse (updated)
Baku/06.04.21/Turan: On April 6, the Prosecutor General's Office of the country announced the details of the arrest of two Generals of the former Ministry of National Security. A criminal case against these persons was initiated based on citizens' appeals.
So, during his work as the head of the Main Investigation Department of the Ministry of National Security, Movlan Shikhaliyev, and a man in his subordination, “falsified evidence in nine criminal cases, and abused his official powers, committed various corruption crimes, extorted bribes on a large scale, embezzled property and funds on a large scale by means of threats” ...
Former head of the Office of Military Counterintelligence Nizami Shirinov during his work "received large bribes for admitting persons to the Academy of the Ministry of National Security, changing the place of service, and appropriating property and money through threats."
Movlan Shikhaliyev and Nizami Shirinov were prosecuted as defendants in a criminal case, they were charged under Articles: 182.3.1, 182.3.2 (extortion), Articles 294.3 (falsification of evidence), 311.3.1, 311.3.2, 311.3.3, 311.3.4 (taking bribes), 341.2.1, 341.2.3 (abuse of power) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
The Baku military court arrested them. Investigative actions to identify and prosecute all the guilty parties continue, the report says. These persons worked in the Ministry of National Security when this department was headed by Eldar Mahmudov. In 2015, he was fired, and 21 senior ministry officers were prosecuted and arrested.
A year later, the MNB was disbanded and foreign intelligence was withdrawn from its structure. Despite the creation of a real criminal network in the MNS, Eldar Mahmudov is still engaged in business, living in his villas. -02D-

Former MNS generals have been detained
Baku/05.04.21/Turan: Former heads of departments of the abolished Ministry of National Security, Generals Movlan Shikhaliyev and Nizami Shirinov have been detained. The statement came from the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office on April 5 is called.
Both men were reportedly questioned at the Prosecutor General's Office.
The Nasimi District Court later remanded both generals in custody.

On January 17, the Khatai District Court of Baku rejected the requests for house arrest for journalists Aynur Elgünesh and Natig Djavadly, employees of Meydan TV, their lawyers, Elchin Sadigov and Zibeyda Sadigova reported to Turan news agency. According to the lawyers, there are no legal or procedural grounds for keeping the journalists in detention. The journalists themselves stated that the criminal case against them had been fabricated to punish them for their professional activities. The defense intends to appeal the court's refusal to transfer the journalists to house arrest.
