MOBILAZE workshop on document security
The EU-funded MOBILAZE project, implemented in the framework of the Mobility Partnership signed between the EU and Azerbaijan aims to provide a solid ground and real opportunities for direct exchange between countries – signatories of the Mobility Partnership in order to foster responsible migration management.
Representatives of the Azerbaijani state institutions, the Delegation of the European Union, the Lithuanian experts and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) will gather on October 20, 2016 at the occasion of the closure of the first of series of workshops under the component 3 related to document security in the framework of the EU-funded “Support to the Implementation of the Mobility Partnership with Azerbaijan (MOBILAZE)” project. The workshop is taking place at the hotel Park Inn, Baku.
The objective of the MOBILAZE project is to support the implementation of the Mobility Partnership by strengthening the capacity of the government to develop and implement their national migration policy. The project also aims to improve the monitoring, analytical and forecasting capacities of the government of Azerbaijan in the field of migration; to strengthening the capacities in the fields of labour migration, document security, and implementation of the national asylum policy and sustainable reintegration of returned Azerbaijani nationals. Raising public awareness about mobility matters between the EU and Azerbaijan is another expected result of the project.
The first workshop on development of manual and e-tool on document security gathered representatives of the two national implementing counterparts: the State Border Service and the State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan. ICMPD project team together with Lithuanian experts from the State Border Guard Service and representatives of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan participated.
During the workshop, the pool of capacitated resource persons and trainers discussed the first steps on elaboration of training manual and curricula focused on document security including the development of distance learning e-tool. The workshop also facilitated the identification of future trainers for following activities of the project such as study visits to EU Member States and training of trainers. -0-

The Prosecutor's Office is investigating the deaths of two people during the recent floods in Baku, Baku Mayor Eldar Azizov said commenting on the consequences of the flooding of tunnels in the capital during the heavy rains on October 22 to journalists. According to him, the sewer system could not handle the large volume of floodwater, which led to the drowning of two people in a tunnel in the Sabunchu district of Baku. The floods revealed vulnerabilities in Baku's water infrastructure.
