Moscow: counter-terrorism operation in Karabakh is an internal matter of Azerbaijan
Baku/19.09.23/Turan: Maria Zakharova, the official spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, has highlighted the official recognition by the Armenian leadership of Nagorno-Karabakh as belonging to Azerbaijan. She made this statement in response to calls from the Armenian Foreign Ministry urging action from the UN Security Council and Russian peacekeepers to quell hostilities initiated by Azerbaijan.
Zakharova posed a pertinent question in her Telegram channel, stating, "And what about the recognition by official Yerevan of Nagorno-Karabakh's belonging to Azerbaijan?"
Earlier, during a press briefing, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Russia is actively engaged in discussions concerning the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, including dialogues with the Azerbaijani authorities. She stressed Moscow's deep concern regarding the sharp escalation in the region and appealed to the conflicting parties to cease the ongoing violence and return to the path of diplomatic resolution.
On Tuesday, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry had announced the commencement of localized anti-terrorist measures in Karabakh, with the aim of reinstating the constitutional order of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Baku has underscored that the civilian population and civilian infrastructure facilities are not the intended targets.
