New US Ambassador Arrives in Azerbaijan
Baku / 07.03.19 / Turan: New US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Lee Litzenberger arrived in Baku on the evening of March 7. At the Baku International Airport, he told reporters that he and his wife, Maryanne, were satisfied with their visit to Azerbaijan.
"As an Ambassador, I expect with great enthusiasm the beginning of the execution of my powers, meeting people, culture of this country, deepening and strengthening ties between our peoples and states," said Litzenberger.
Earlier, on March 6, the US embassy in Azerbaijan issued a video message from Litzenberger.
Over 34 years of diplomatic career, he worked in missions in Afghanistan, Algeria, Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Georgia, Kazakhstan and Serbia.
"The United States has strong ties with Azerbaijan. For 25 years now our countries have been cooperating in such important sectors as security, energy, economic growth and democratic development. I, working as Ambassador, will make efforts to strengthen bilateral relations in all aspects and identify new areas of cooperation. The relations between the people of our countries are strong and I am ready to meet with different people and listen to their opinions," said Litzenberger in a video message.
The US Senate approved Litzenberger as the US Ambassador to Azerbaijan on January 2.
He arrived in Azerbaijan 12 months after his predecessor, Robert Cekuta, left the country.
Prior to his appointment to Azerbaijan, Litzenberger held the position of chief adviser in the bureau of the Department of State for military-political issues. -03B06-
